Words of Encouragement Newsletter
I hear from women all the time who tell me they are weary and exhausted. Their comments to me are something like: “I just need a break. I have no peace.” I can relate.
Have you ever been in a place of needing rest? Not just physical rest but mental, emotional, and spiritual rest? Perhaps you and I are overlooking the best rest of all: rest for the soul.
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”Matthew 11:28:30 NASB
We must take time to repair the soul. I have heard it said abiding in Jesus, bearing His yoke and following Him is so difficult. However, the very effort to attain a version of rest in our own strength disturbs true rest and makes our rest unattainable.
And so, it is with Jesus. The soul must continually yield itself fully to God for rest.
Our hearts must understand what Jesus means when he says, “Abide in me.” “learn of me,” When we yield ourselves to Him and cast ourselves into the arms of His love, we abandon ourselves to His blessed keeping.
Coming to Jesus is not a burdensome yoke, but resistance to the yoke, that makes the difficulty; the whole-hearted surrender to Jesus, our Master, and our Keeper, secures the rest for us.
Ask for help today. Simply ask God: “please help me experience true rest by abiding in you.”
