Do You Need Encouragement?

Words of Encouragement for the Day

How do you respond to stress and stressful situations?

This is a time in history where the world seems out of control.   There are so many things the regular person watches on and might think:  I am helpless to make a difference in this tidal wave of chaos.  People are sick.  Mom’s are having trouble feeding their babies.  Tension flares. Inflation, housing, crime, loud voices, lack of services and goods have many individuals looking for answers.

Many of the things we see in the news bring tremendous grief.  If you are like me…sometimes I just do not know what to say.  I don’t have a response for all the hurt and absolutely senseless horror going on in my state, the country, or the world.  Because these are overwhelming circumstances I have had a hard time responding with any words at all….mostly tears.

May I encourage you to consider hope?  Hope is not just a feeling but hope is a PERSON.  In Romans 15:13 the words say:  “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  (NASB)

You might be thinking to yourself “how in the world can we have hope and joy in a time like this?”  Well, I am glad you asked this!  The God of Hope is the entity (through faith in Himself – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit) which brings peace and joy in the midst of absolute crazy.   As a believing person in the God of Hope, Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit,  I am working on the same thing.  How to have hope in the midst of deep sorrow.

Lamenting the wrongs and tragedies of this world which is very fallen and messed up, helps produce faith even in the midst of our tears.  Lament to the right place / person produces the problem or complaint to God.  The anchor of all this is the yet of God’s character.

Yet means that we choose to keep asking God for help, to cry out to him for our needs, even when the pain of life is raw.  Yet reminds us that sorrow doesn’t have to yield before we ask God for help.”  Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy by Mark Vroegop (pg. 59).

If you haven’t a clue what I am talking about or understand about the process of “lament” I highly recommend it.  The book I quoted above by Mark Vroegop has opened a whole new understanding along with the Scriptures to help me process biblically the sorrow and frustration I feel and experience in this world…..right now!   Let us hear from you.
